Pros And Cons Of Traveling In A Recreational Vehicle (RV)

Blog

The United States has numerous large cities that seem to grow with time, making it more necessary than ever to preserve and enjoy the areas of nature peppered throughout the country. With many locations named "National Parks" and even more units as part of the whole national park system, it's difficult to see everything one site at a time. In order to see as many of these landmarks as possible, many people rent a recreational vehicle (RV). RV travel can be a dream or a nightmare, depending on your preferences. Learn more about the pros and cons of RVs.

Pro: Cover a Lot of Space

National Parks often exist in remote spaces. While some may be close together, most of the time, it is a significant drive between destinations. For example, it takes over several hours to travel from Starved Rock National Park to Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky, and then another couple of hours to travel from Mammoth Cave National Park to Great Smoky Mountains National park in Tennessee. An RV allows you to travel to all of the nearby landmarks on your time, allowing you to cover more space and create your own adventure compared to traditional travel.

Con: Difficult to Drive

Except for certain extra-large models, most RVs don't require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL). However, they can be difficult vehicles to manage. Obviously, they are much larger than most vehicles, which can lead to trouble fitting in certain places. In fact, certain roads and parking lots may not accommodate RVs. They are especially inconvenient in the city and on mountain roads.

Pro: Savings

The average daily cost (ADC) of a hotel rental in 2021 was $125. However, 4-star and 5-star hotels cost significantly more. RV rentals cost an average of $75 - $125 a night. With the right RV, you can save a lot of money traveling in an RV. You will need to pay for gas, but the gas may be equal to or less than the cost of airfare (depending on the itinerary).

Con: Modest Conditions

RVs require all travel companions to spend time with each other in close quarters, which can get crowded at times. The RV also doesn't come with maid service, meaning the travelers will need to clean up after themselves. Beds, bathrooms, and living spaces won't be as spacious or luxurious, either.

Pro: Lifelong Memories

The memories you'll make and the bonds you'll create on an RV trip can stay with you for a lifetime, and that's priceless.

To get started, contact an RV resort in your area.
